Abstract
This study analyzes the post-extractive contestation practices developed by the Indigenous Community of Alto Milluni, located at the head of the Katari Basin (Bolivia), in the face of more than a century of mining and water exploitation oriented to the urban supply of La Paz and El Alto. The communal experience allows us to propose the notion of infrastructural palimpsests of meaning as a tool to describe the ways in which the community reoccupies and resignifies the vestiges of the infrastructures of dispossession to build post-extractive horizons based on communal care and continuity. A collaborative methodology developed between 2021 and 2024 was applied, which combined participatory workshops, territorial tours, participant observation and joint design of projects with communal authorities and neighbors of different ages. The strategies that articulate economy, identity and territoriality were analyzed. It is argued that these practices represent the production of dynamic and variegated post-extractive horizons, beyond identity essentialism, thus contributing to the regional debate on territorial contestation and reconstitution.
