The increase in population, production and excessive consumption have led to a massive generation of waste, which has saturated disposal systems. On the islands, this situation is even more critical due to the limitations of space, economy, natural and human resources. In the Chiloé archipelago, 74 potential sites for waste disposal were identified through a multi-criteria evaluation based on fuzzy logic and using the ArcMap 10.3 Geographic Information System. Only 9 of the sites present the necessary area to attend to the production of waste in relation to the population, which reveals a spatial crisis in the final disposal of waste in the territory. The investigation identifies the optimal sites for waste disposal, following current regulations and ECLAC considerations.
