Abstract

This paper explores the technological field in order to identify the socio-economic lines of force that drive and shape the direction of technical development, as well as the way in which it influences the economy and society. For this, it presents a set of categories to address the analysis of technological change. Next, the hypothesis of the conformation and diffusion of successive "technical-economic paradigms" is developed, whose crystallization would lead to a change of course in the evolution of all the technologies of a period, leading to profound structural changes in the economic apparatus. Then, the way in which this process of structural change requires equally profound transformations in the socio-institutional sphere is analyzed. Based on this general model of analysis, it is suggested that we are in a period of global technological transition, which is the bearer of new opportunities to outline development strategies.
