Political opposition and institutionality for the opposition in a presidential regime

Abstract

The article refers to the relevance of the opposition as a political institution and provides an account of its historical evolution under the most common governmental regimes, such as parliamentarism, semipresidentialism and presidentialism. It also refers to the status of opposition in Chile in the context of its robust presidential system, thus proposing the convenience of its institutionalization.
