Abstract

Transparency is one of the institutional values that the Chilean General Comptroller Office proclaims – having among its strategic objectives the strengthening of the principle of administrative probity and transparency in governance. This paper reviews the relationship that the General Comptroller Office has had with transparency, recalling its pioneer contribution to the establishment of the current regime of transparency and reflecting on how this Control Authority has articulated the implementation of its obligations of transparency and access to public information. Similarly, some problems that have arisen in relation to the judging CGO’s power are reviewed – power that differs from case law that the Chilean Council for Transparency has been setting regarding to claims for denial of access to public information.
